Samyukta Sangharsha Samiti Nepal protests inside police cordon at Maitighar
The Samyukta Sangharsha Samiti Nepal staged a protest inside a police cordon at Maitighar, Kathmandu. The protest was organized under the banner of resistance against imperialism, reactionary forces, and the status quo. The demonstrators raised slogans calling for national sovereignty, self-determination, and a progressive political exit from the current system. “Let’s resist imperialism, reactionary forces, and the status quo! Let us unite for national independence, sovereignty, and a progressive political solution!” were some of the main chants heard during the protest.
Biplav’s party proposes name change to Communist Party of Nepal
Netra Bikram Chand Biplav’s faction has proposed to officially rename their political party to the “Communist Party of Nepal.” Representatives from Biplav’s party, led by Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma, visited the Election Commission on Saturday to initiate the registration process for the party under the proposed name. Election Commission officials confirmed that the necessary procedures for party registration are currently underway.
Nepal Medical Association urges action after assault on hospital staff at KIST
The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has strongly condemned the assault on doctors and health workers at KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Lalitpur, along with the vandalism of hospital property. The association has also demanded immediate legal action against those involved in the incident. The attack occurred on October 27, following the death of a pregnant woman during treatment, when an angry group reportedly vandalized the hospital and assaulted medical staff.
Weather disruptions affect flights at Tribhuvan Airport
Due to adverse weather conditions, flights across Nepal have been impacted, with visibility issues causing delays in both domestic and international flights departing from Tribhuvan International Airport. Currently, international flights are on hold, and flights to mountain regions such as Lukla (Tenzing Hillary Airport) and Simikot in Humla are experiencing significant disruptions.
Govt to classify public institutions into strategic and commercial categories
The government has decided to classify public institutions into two categories, commercial and strategic, according to the recently issued “Public Institutions Management and Good Governance Policy, 2025.” The policy, approved by the Cabinet on September 28, states that public institutions competing with the private sector will be classified as commercial institutions. Strategic public institutions will include those providing essential services where private sector involvement is absent or institutions fulfilling national and international obligations.
Iih’s analysis: Balen’s move to replace Home Minister Aryal could even change the Prime Minister
Social activist Iih has analysed the political turbulence and unseen power plays that emerged after the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9 and during the formation of the new government. He said that the initial efforts to form a new government were limited to a small circle, with major political parties and power centers remaining relatively inactive. According to Iih, the first priority after the September 9 unrest was to make Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah the Prime Minister. However, as the situation worsened, Balen reportedly backed out of the plan.
National Assembly Secretary Dr. Aryal resigns
National Assembly Secretary Dr. Surendra Aryal has resigned from his post. On Tuesday, Aryal tendered his resignation to President Ramchandra Paudel, the Secretary General of the Federal Parliament, and the Secretary of the House of Representatives. According to the Office of the President, Dr. Aryal’s resignation has been submitted under Clause 6 (a) of the Act Related to the Salary, Terms of Service and Facilities of the Secretary of the National Assembly, 2075, and will take effect immediately.
Moderate rain expected in three provinces from Thursday to Saturday
The weather in Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces of Nepal is expected to be affected from Thursday to Saturday due to the cyclone ‘Montha’ developing over the Bay of Bengal. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the system is likely to bring moderate rainfall in most parts of Madhesh and Koshi provinces and some areas of Bagmati Province. The department has also forecast heavy rainfall in one or two areas of Madhesh and Koshi provinces, while light rain is expected in some eastern parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
Two held for alleged involvement in beating policemen during Gen-Z protest
Two youths, identified as Alish Shrestha, 22, and Saurabh Tamang, 27, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the vandalism of a police office and the assault on a policeman during the Gen-Z demonstrations on September 9. Shrestha, originally from Golanjor rural municipality-1 in Sindhuli, is a temporary resident of Sukedhara, Kathmandu, while Tamang, from Uttargaya rural municipality-4 in Rasuwa, resides in Manamaiju, Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, and Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dan Bahadur Karki confirmed the arrests of the two on charges related to the incident.

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a positive rally on Tuesday, rising by 62.29 points, bringing the index to a new level of 2,571.34 points. Despite a brief dip at the opening, the market remained green for the rest of the day. The trading volume also saw a significant increase, reaching Rs 4.57 billion, up from the previous day’s Rs 2.79 billion. Out of 236 listed companies, 224 saw an increase in their stock prices, while 12 experienced a decline and two remained unchanged.
Heavy snow forces suspension of Annapurna Base Camp trekking
Light rainfall accompanied by snowfall has disrupted tourism activities in Myagdi and Mustang districts, leaving trekkers stranded along popular mountain routes including the Annapurna Base Camp trail. According to officials, snowfall since last night has made roads and trekking trails slippery and impassable. “The paths are covered with snow, making both vehicle movement and trekking unsafe,” said Pramesh Gurung, ward chair of Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality –1. “We’ve asked all tourists to remain indoors for their safety.”
750 trekkers rescued from Tilicho base camp after snowfall
As many as 750 persons stranded at Tilicho base camp of a mountainous district, Manang, have been rescued by a joint squad of the Nepali Army, the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Police. APF Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa informed that they were brought to Khangsar of Disyang rural municipality-9 from the base camp. The people who had reached there for the visit were stranded after the blizzard since last night.
UML Secretariat meeting scheduled for Saturday to finalize convention preparations
The CPN-UML has decided to hold its Secretariat meeting on Saturday (November 1) to finalize preparations for the party’s 11th General Convention. According to the party, the meeting will discuss and decide on various issues related to the upcoming convention. Earlier, the UML Central Committee meeting held from October 15 to 17 had decided to organize the General Convention in Pokhara from November 13 to 15.
Gold price drops by Rs 2,900 per tola in domestic market
The price of gold decreased by Rs 2,900 per tola in the domestic market on Tuesday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, fine gold is being traded at Rs 237,000 per tola today. The price stood at Rs 239,900 per tola on Monday.

Sher Bahadur Deuba and Arzu Rana reach Singapore for treatment
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and central member Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba have reached Singapore for medical treatment. The Deuba couple left from Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday night. Upon arrival at Singapore’s Changi Airport, they were taken to a hospital on a wheelchair, though they had walked unaided while departing from Kathmandu.
