UML Secretariat meeting: Oli under pressure to resign as party chair

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML Secretariat meeting is underway at Chair KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur.

According to leaders present, members of the Secretariat are divided into two groups, one pressing for Oli’s resignation and the other opposing it.

Oli, who was forced out of government in the wake of the Gen-Z protests, is facing growing calls from party leaders to step down as chair.

A Secretariat member said more than seven office bearers have demanded that Oli resign and hand over leadership to an acting chair to pave the way for party restructuring.

Some leaders have also called for an early general convention to increase the participation of the second and third generations, as well as youth, in the party.

The meeting, which began at 1 pm on Sunday, was still ongoing at the time of reporting.
