KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined on Thursday, closing at 2,781 points, a drop of 38.10 points from the previous day’s close of 2,781.
Despite the fall in the benchmark index, overall trading turnover rose. The day’s transactions reached Rs 8.09 billion, compared to Rs 7.68 billion in the previous session. Out of the listed companies, 24 saw gains while 227 declined.
All major sectoral indices, except non-life insurance, ended in the red. The development bank sector registered the sharpest fall, losing 2.38 percent, followed by finance, hotels and tourism, hydropower, investment, life insurance, manufacturing and processing, microfinance, others, and trading.
The banking index also slipped by 0.87 percent. The non-life insurance sector was the only bright spot, edging up by 0.01 percent.
