NAWALPUR: Construction of a well-equipped trauma center has begun in full swing in Devchuli Municipality-17 in Nawalpur.
The Intensive Urban and Building Construction Project, Chitwan, stated that work is progressing steadily as per the agreement with the Government of Nepal to complete the project within 18 months from its start on July 14, 2025.
Office Information Officer Engineer Drona Mandev Katuwal said the construction is being carried out by BBS JV of Chitwan, with a total budget of Rs 103.5 million including VAT.
“Currently, foundation work is underway. The company is laying poles and preparing the foundation, which is expected to be completed in the coming days,” he added.
Katuwal noted that progress accelerated after the Council of Ministers approved the cutting of 646 trees and poles of various species, based on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report. Although permission was granted, only trees located directly in the building’s footprint are being removed at this stage.
According to Trauma Center Site Engineer Abhishek Kumar Chaurasia, the center is being built on approximately three bighas of Jharahi Community Forest land. The two-and-a-half-story building will cover around 1,000 square meters and have a 15-bed capacity.
The ground floor will house patient treatment areas; the first floor will include hospital administration, a multipurpose meeting room, and wards; and the upper floor will provide staff accommodation. Plans also include rooms for X-rays, operation theaters, and laboratories.
Located along the East-West Highway, the trauma center is expected to serve accident victims from Nawalpur and neighboring districts.
