Baburam Bhattarai backs RSP’s signature drive for Rabi Lamichhane’s release

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai visited the central office of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Banasthali on Saturday to express his solidarity with the party’s ongoing signature campaign demanding the release of party president Rabi Lamichhane.

Dr. Bhattarai signed the petition at the RSP headquarters, supporting what the party calls a “public campaign against political vendetta.”

RSP leader Deepak Bohora confirmed Bhattarai’s visit and participation.

“The former Prime Minister has expressed his support for the people’s signature campaign against political revenge,” said Bohora. He added that Bhattarai believes the state has treated Lamichhane unfairly.

The RSP launched the nationwide and international signature drive on June 21, claiming Lamichhane was jailed as part of a political conspiracy in connection with the ongoing cooperative fraud case.

Lamichhane is currently in custody after being sent to pre-trial detention over his alleged involvement in the scam. RSP insists the charges are politically motivated and has vowed to continue its protest until his release.
