RSP, RPP walk out of parliament as PM prepares to speak

KATHMANDU: Opposition parties Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) walked out of the House of Representatives on Saturday, continuing their protest over the visit visa controversy implicating Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

The walkout took place just before Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was scheduled to address the House. Lawmakers from both opposition parties stood in protest inside the chamber, demanding the Home Minister’s resignation and the formation of a high-level investigation committee.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire had granted the Prime Minister time to speak, but RSP and RPP lawmakers exited the floor as soon as it was announced.

Despite the obstruction, lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition alliances continued speaking during the House session. RSP and RPP have been pressing the government for accountability over the alleged corruption in the visit visa racket, which they claim has victimized thousands of Nepali youths seeking to go abroad.
