Mango festival being held in Dhanusha

DHANUSHA: A two-day mango festival is set to take place in Dhanusha today and tomorrow.

The Chitrapur Mango Festival–2082 is being organized by the Chitrapur Mango Agro Tourism Board on June 28 and 29 in Chitrapur, Bateshwor Rural Municipality-1.

Pradeep Mahato, Chairman of the Chitrapur Mango Agro Tourism Board, said the festival aims to promote local mango varieties and establish Chitrapur as a “mango tourism destination.”

Although the area was declared a mango pocket zone under the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Program, farmers say they still face challenges in marketing their produce.

Fulgen Magahi, a member of the festival committee, shared that this is the second time the mango festival is being held in the area. The event will showcase more than 40 varieties of mangoes and a range of mango-based products, including juices and pickles.

Chairman Mahato said the festival will feature programs such as free mango tasting for visitors, garden tours, mango-picking experiences, and educational sessions to introduce students to various mango varieties.

Mangoes are currently being cultivated on over 300 bighas of land in the Chitrapur area. According to Saroj Chaudhary, spokesperson for the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of Madhesh Province, the province contributes 77.1 percent of the country’s total mango production.
