Call for Home Minister’s resignation raised in National Assembly

KATHMANDU: In today’s session of the National Assembly, members once again demanded the resignation of the Home Minister.

During a sudden speech, MP Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami called for an impartial investigation into the visit visa scandal.

He highlighted that some officials, including the head of the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, have been arrested by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

With ongoing questions about the Home Minister’s involvement in the case, Achhami urged that the minister should resign to facilitate a fair investigation.

MP Achhami also expressed concern that the recent developments are sending a negative message worldwide. He accused the two-thirds majority government of failing to be responsible and accountable to the people.

The National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal acknowledged that the matter has drawn the assembly’s attention. Opposition parties have been disrupting the House of Representatives session for the second consecutive day, demanding the Home Minister’s resignation, but the National Assembly meeting has continued.

Today’s National Assembly agenda includes oral questions related to the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Health and Population, and Ministry of Forests and Environment, with the respective ministers scheduled to respond.

Additionally, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaursiya is set to present a proposal to refer the “Some Nepal Acts Amendment Bill, 2080” received with a message from the House of Representatives to the Legislative Management Committee for detailed discussion.
