Man kills ex-wife and two daughters in Rupandehi

BUTWAL: A man allegedly murdered his ex-wife and two young daughters early Wednesday morning in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City–11, Horizon Chowk, Rupandehi district.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Bahadur Kshetri, the accused, Sujan Koirala, attacked his former wife, Deepa Basyal, and their two daughters, Sneha and Himani, using a knife and a hammer.

The police suspect that Koirala had invited them to his home the previous day.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Deepa had visited her ex-husband’s residence with her daughters on Tuesday.

“We are trying to find out why she went there,” SP Kshetri said. “The crime scene has been secured and preparations are underway for postmortem procedures.”

The motive behind the brutal murders is still under investigation.

Sujan Koirala, who is now in police custody, has a violent criminal past. He had previously served time in prison for murdering his own brother. However, he was granted a presidential pardon on the occasion of Constitution Day several years ago.

Deepa Basyal was a health worker at the Kunsare Basic Health Center in Tansen Municipality–7, Palpa. After separating from Koirala a few years ago, she had remarried and was living with her new husband in Nawalparasi.

Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
