Monsoon expected to arrive earlier than usual in Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the monsoon is expected to arrive earlier than usual this week.

In its Monsoon Arrival Monitoring Bulletin-1, the Division noted that while the average monsoon arrival date in eastern Nepal is June 13, current signs indicate an earlier onset this year.

“On Tuesday, 2082/02/13, the monsoon appears to have reached parts of Assam, India, and the eastern regions of Bhutan and Bangladesh,” the Division stated.

“Based on satellite cloud images, atmospheric data, and weather models, the monsoon is likely to reach eastern Nepal by the end of this week, ahead of the average date.”
