Nepal clinches 12 medals at South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship



KATHMANDU: Nepal secured a total of 12 medals—including one gold, six silver, and five bronze—at the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship held at the National Table Tennis Training Centre in Lainchaur.

India dominated the tournament, winning the remaining 13 gold medals across the U-19 and U-15 categories. Nepal’s gold medal came in the U-19 boys’ team event, where the team of Prabesh Basnet, Gananjay Dahal, Himal Bista, and Rubin Maharjan delivered an impressive performance.

In the U-15 boys’ team event, the Nepali squad—comprising Prajil Bhattarai, Jayasnu Maharjan, Aryan Shahi, and Rijan Shakya—claimed silver. Nepal also earned silver medals in the U-19 boys’ doubles through Gananjay Dahal and Prabesh Basnet, and in the U-15 boys’ doubles, where Prajil Bhattarai and Jayasnu Maharjan finished runners-up.

A total of 85 athletes from six South Asian countries—excluding Bhutan—competed in the four-day tournament organized by the All Nepal Table Tennis Association.

According to the organizers, the top two teams from the U-19 boys’ and girls’ team events have qualified for the upcoming Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship to be held in Uzbekistan.
