Police searching for Durga Prasai for causing unrest in protest

KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai is currently being sought by the police after fleeing the violent protests in Tinkune.

Prasai, who is believed to have secretly left the venue in a vehicle after the chaos ensued, is now a prime target for arrest.

A senior official from the Nepal Police confirmed that a police team has already reached Prasai’s residence in Bhaktapur.

The official further stated that the Home Ministry had issued an order to apprehend him, citing his instigation of the violent protest as inappropriate.

“The order has come from above. We are on the lookout,” the police official told Khabarhub.

Despite the police’s efforts, Prasai’s whereabouts remain unknown. The protests, which led to the deaths of two individuals, have sparked intense scrutiny, and Durga Prasai is now facing heightened pressure from authorities.

In response to the developments, Prasai claimed that he had received information regarding an imminent arrest. He expressed his anger over the deaths during the protest, specifically 29-year-old Sabin Maharjan, while failing to mention the death of journalist Suresh Rajak, who was burnt alive during the protests.

Prasai defended the royalist movement, stating, “We did not go to vandalize, set fire to, or beat up the police. We went to participate in a peaceful meeting, protest, and declaration meeting.”

He criticized the government’s response to the protest, blaming the situation on the state’s repression.

Prasai also hinted that his arrest would not deter the movement, declaring, “Durga is no longer a person, it is an idea, a campaign.”
