Nepal’s first female judge, Sharada Shrestha, passes away



KATHMANDU: Sharada Shrestha, Nepal’s first female judge, has passed away at the age of 84.

The Supreme Court’s Information Officer, Nirajan Pandey, confirmed that Shrestha passed away this morning during treatment at the Police Hospital in Maharajgunj.

She had been receiving medical care there for several days after experiencing health issues.

Shrestha was appointed as a justice of the Supreme Court on April 15, 2004, and served until May 24, 2008. She was also the second female justice to be appointed to the Supreme Court.

Throughout her career, Shrestha made significant contributions to Nepal’s judicial system, having worked in the sector since her early days as a judicial officer.

Her cremation will take place today at Pashupati Aryaghat. Shrestha is survived by her two sons.
