KATHMANDU: Dr. Shesh Ghale, former President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and coordinator of the high-level committee, has called for unity within the organization.
Ghale urged non-resident Nepalis from around the world to gather in Kathmandu this upcoming May to approve the organization’s new statute.
Ghale has also emphasized that the upcoming convention will be a significant milestone in the association’s history.
“This is an opportunity to lay the foundation for NRNA. It is an opportunity to transform our organization. We will formulate a new statute at the convention,” he said.
“This committee has a clear mandate. Rather than placing blame, this is an opportunity to move forward in a historically non-controversial way.”
He pointed out that the NRNA has faced ups and downs over the past 22 years, with issues arising around membership and the selection of representatives.
“The problem lies in membership and the selection of representatives. The Supreme Court has identified this issue, which is why we have opened up the delegate process to everyone,” Ghale said.
“This must be included in the new statute. If more people come to Kathmandu, it will be a great success. But this is not possible without your participation.”
Chairman Ghale also noted that the high-level committee, formed under the Supreme Court’s mandate, has already held 10 meetings after receiving a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“There are just two months left until the unity convention,” he said. “Let’s work day and night. We’ve suffered so much to build our own office, but now it’s on rent. It’s not meant to be leased or for profit.”
He added, “We’ve had to go to cafes and hotels because they wouldn’t allow us to hold meetings in our own building. Now, we will not back down; no one can stop us.”
The NRNA high-level committee, formed in accordance with the Supreme Court’s decision, held a Zoom meeting to provide information on the progress made so far and the preparations for the unity convention, which is scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from May 3-5.
