Kavre police intensify probe into Gen Z movement vandalism

DHULIKHEL: Kavre District Police have launched a special investigation into incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting during the Gen Z movement. Complaints have been lodged over damage to six private structures, prompting authorities to gather evidence and plan further arrests.

So far, 11 individuals linked to attacks on public and private properties have been arrested, and investigations continue. Police are also inspecting government buildings and public infrastructure damaged during the unrest.

On September 9, protesters targeted municipal offices, police stations, party offices, and homes of local officials in Banepa, Panauti, and Dhulikhel. The Banepa Municipality Office, political party offices, and private residences were extensively damaged, with fires set and important documents destroyed.

Authorities had earlier appealed to the public to provide information via email regarding vandalism and arson. The unrest also saw the rearrest of 52 escaped prisoners from various parts of Kavre.

During the protests, police in Banepa-9 had detained eight individuals with 730 rounds of ammunition, linked to violent activities.

DSP Rabin Bista, spokesperson for the district police, said, “We are now intensifying the investigation and focusing on those involved or inciting violence. Arrests will be made based on evidence, and efforts to restore law and order will continue in full force.”
