Govt urges trekkers to check weather updates before heading to high-hill regions

KATHMANDU: The government has urged trekkers to obtain up-to-date weather information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology before embarking on treks in the Himalayan and high-hill regions.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has advised travelers to review advance forecasts and alerts, assess potential health risks, and make adequate preparations before setting out. It has also urged trekkers not to travel alone and to descend to lower altitudes for treatment if they feel unwell.

The Authority issued the reminder following the deaths of four people in Manang and Kaski recently due to altitude-related illnesses.

A Spanish national who fell ill was rescued and brought to Kathmandu for treatment. Expressing condolences, the Authority extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of those undergoing treatment.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rain and snowfall are likely in some high-hill and mountainous areas of several provinces.

The Department is conducting further analysis amid the development of two low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, which may bring rain and snow to Nepal between Tuesday and Friday.
