KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has defended Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, stating that allegations linking him to the visit visa controversy are false.
Speaking to journalists at Bharatpur Airport in Chitwan on Thursday, Deuba said there was a deliberate attempt to target the home minister without basis.
He also reaffirmed that the party’s general convention will be held on schedule, brushing aside speculation about delays.
Addressing coalition dynamics, Deuba said differences between Congress and UML on some issues were natural, given their status as separate political parties.
Regarding the government’s decision to remove the “Take or Pay” provision from the national budget, Deuba said it followed Congress’s recommendation, and should be seen as a routine part of coalition negotiations.
Deuba was in Chitwan to attend a memorial event for pro-democracy leader Gauridevi Pradhan, joined by other party leaders.
