Nepal wins 10 medals, including five golds, at BKSP Judo Championship in Bangladesh



KATHMANDU: Nepali judokas have won a total of 10 medals, including five gold medals, at the BKSP Cup Invitational International Judo Championship held in Bangladesh. With the addition of one silver and four bronze medals, Nepal secured second place overall in the championship.

The standout performance came from the Prisoners Assistance Mission (PAM) team of Nepal, which claimed four gold medals and one bronze. All five PAM athletes who participated in the competition succeeded in bringing home medals, making the team the highest individual contributor to Nepal’s overall medal tally.

A total of 12 athletes represented Nepal in the championship. Among them were Nisha Shrestha, Binita Nepali, Pemba Yangji Sherpa, Samita Nepali, and Sabin Kumar Diyali from PAM, all of whom won medals in their respective categories. Sabin Kumar Diyali won gold in the men’s under 60 kg category, while Bishesh BK secured another gold in the men’s under 66 kg event. In the women’s category, Nisha Shrestha won gold in the under 45 kg division, Binita Nepali in the under 52 kg, and Pemba Yangji Sherpa in the under 57 kg.

Riwaj Lama Tamang won a silver medal in the men’s under 45 kg category. Bronze medals were awarded to Buddha Gurung in the men’s under 55 kg, Bigyan Khattri in the men’s under 73 kg, Samita Nepali in the women’s under 44 kg, and Rekha Shrestha in the women’s under 63 kg.

The Nepali team was coached by Radha Devi Rai and Laxmi Tamang. Coach Rai also served as a referee during the championship, according to Deepak Harsha Bajracharya, President of the Nepal Judo Association.

The host team, BKSP from Bangladesh, emerged as the team champion with six gold, eight silver, and 10 bronze medals.
