62 teachers injured in clash with police: Federation



KATHMANDU: The Teachers Federation has reported that 62 teachers were injured in a clash between teachers and police in Baneshwor on Sunday.

The teachers, who have been protesting on the streets for 25 days, had previously held peaceful demonstrations, but today’s protest turned violent.

Federation President Laxmi Kishor Subedi stated that the injured teachers are being treated at the Trauma Center, Everest, and Civil Hospitals.

Subedi accused the government of cowardice during the peaceful protest. “We condemn the cowardice shown by the government. Teachers were attacked during the protest,” he said. “Sixty-two people are injured, and we are in the hospital.”

He has called on the government to take responsibility for the treatment of the injured teachers.

The teachers’ protest, which began at Maitighar and reached Bijuli Bazaar Bridge on April 3, had been peaceful until now.

However, today, police arrested the teachers after they attempted to break into a restricted area. Police claim that force was used only after the teachers became aggressive, and they deployed batons and water cannons. A scuffle even broke out among the teachers on Saturday.
