Bishwaprakash Sharma criticizes opposition for obstructing parliament

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma has criticized the government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising as Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, calling it a mistake.

Speaking to media at the Parliament building on Thursday, Sharma revealed that he and fellow General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa had urged the Prime Minister and ministers not to remove Ghising.

He also mentioned that the issue was discussed within the Nepali Congress office bearers’ meeting, where no consensus was reached on Ghising’s dismissal.

“Even while the decision was being made, we strongly opposed it,” Sharma said. “We raised this issue seriously, but the decision still went forward.”

However, Sharma argued that it is now inappropriate for opposition parties, including the CPN-Maoist Center, to obstruct Parliament over the matter, as it has already been taken to court.

“The issue is now in the hands of the judiciary,” he said. “Parliament should not be obstructed over a case that is under legal consideration.”
