Prime Minister stresses coordination to combat money laundering

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among various agencies to curb financial crimes and promote transparency in financial activities.

In his congratulatory message on the occasion of the First National Money Laundering Prevention Day, 2025, PM Oli called for collaboration among indicator organizations, regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies, and judicial entities to strengthen the money laundering prevention system.

“The system must work effectively to prevent the entry of criminal assets into the financial system and ensure financial integrity,” said Oli.

He highlighted that financial crimes pose threats to the economy and governance and expressed hope for further improvements in combating such crimes.

PM Oli encouraged individuals engaged in legitimate professions and businesses to work with confidence, assuring them of a supportive environment.

The event, organized by the Money Laundering Investigation Department, was celebrated under the theme “Transparency in Financial Activities, Commitment to Preventing Money Laundering.”

This is the first time the day is being observed, following the government’s decision to mark Magh 14 (Jan 27) annually, commemorating the enactment of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2008.
