Deadline to register parties for House election ends today

KATHMANDU: The deadline for political parties to register with the Election Commission (EC) for the upcoming House of Representatives election, scheduled for March 5, 2026, ends today, marking the final day for parties to secure eligibility to participate in the national polls.

The EC had opened the window for election-purpose registration on Mangsir 1 and set today, Mangsir 10, as the last date. By Tuesday evening, 80 parties, including major forces like Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Nepali Communist Party, had completed the process.

A total of 135 parties are registered with the EC, but only those filing within the given deadline will be allowed to contest the election. The number is expected to rise slightly as parties rush to complete formalities before the cutoff.

Following the deadline, the EC will begin scrutiny and verification of documents from Mangsir 11 to 18. The final list of approved parties is scheduled for publication on December 6.
