Bagmati Province Assembly meeting likely in first week of November

HETAUDA: Preparations are underway to convene the long-delayed meeting of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly in the first week of November.

According to Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain, discussions are being held with leaders of political parties represented in the Provincial Assembly to finalize the date of the session. She said the assembly meeting is expected to be called immediately after the Chhath festival, following consultations with party leaders.

The Assembly meeting has not been held for a long time, partly due to damage to the assembly hall during the Gen-Z protest, when the building was vandalized and set on fire. As a result, the provincial government has begun preparations to hold the upcoming session at the assembly hall of the Chief Minister’s Office in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City–2.

According to Ram Kumar Poudel, Secretary of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, general repairs and maintenance are being carried out in the hall that was damaged during the protest.

“Currently, cleaning and repair work are underway,” he said. “Painting, furniture management, and electrification are being completed rapidly, and the hall will likely be ready soon.”

The Urban Development and Building Office, with support from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, has taken responsibility for cleaning and painting the hall.

Secretary Poudel added that efforts are also being made to rent or temporarily manage furniture and other technical equipment required for the meeting. He said the office is using some laptops and desktop computers salvaged from the arson incident to support administrative preparations.
