Trump arrives in Malaysia to witness Thailand-Cambodia peace accord

KAULA LUMPUR: US President Donald Trump has arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to witness the signing of a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, aimed at resolving a long-standing border dispute.

Trump’s trade-related pressure helped bring about a ceasefire in late July, ending five days of clashes that resulted in more than two dozen deaths.

During his stay in Malaysia, he will also participate in the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

This visit is part of a high-stakes, one-week trip across Asia, which includes stops in Japan for talks with the country’s new conservative leader and in South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ summit.

The highlight of the tour will be a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Gyeongju.
