Finance Ministry engages donor community on economic priorities after political transition

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance on Friday held a meeting with heads and representatives of local donor agencies to discuss Nepal’s recent political changes and the economic roadmap of the new government.

Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal thanked development partners for their continued support to Nepal’s socio-economic development and outlined the immediate priorities of the interim government. He emphasized transparency, accountability, a corruption-free society, and strengthening the rule of law as key commitments in line with the aspirations of Nepal’s youth.

Highlighting the heavy damage caused by recent protests to both public and private sectors, Minister Khanal said the government would pursue reconstruction through cost-cutting, austerity, and accelerated economic reform programs.

Envoys from Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Finland, and Australia; representatives of India and Norway; the European Union; UN agencies; the World Food Programme; and other bilateral and multilateral partners expressed support for the government’s policies and priorities.

Development partners affirmed their readiness to continue ongoing projects and collaborate with Nepal on new initiatives.
