SC to hear Mukul Dhakal’s plea against RSP expulsion

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal has summoned both parties for a hearing regarding a writ petition filed by Mukul Dhakal, seeking reinstatement as the General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The petition, filed against party president Rabi Lamichhane, current general secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, and spokesperson Manish Jha, was heard by a single bench of Justice Kumar Regmi.

Following the preliminary hearing on Thursday, the court has scheduled a hearing on the interim order for Tuesday, July 1.

Dhakal filed the petition on Wednesday, requesting a writ of mandamus from the Supreme Court to allow him to resume his duties as general secretary. However, the RSP had already expelled Dhakal from the party on August 27, 2024.

Following his expulsion, Kabindra Burlakoti was appointed general secretary and Manish Jha became the party spokesperson. Party leaders have expressed surprise that the changes have not yet been updated by the Election Commission, causing procedural confusion.
