KATHMANDU: The Maoist Centre and the Ganga Narayan Shrestha-led Nepal Samajwadi Party are set to officially unite on Monday.
The unification announcement will take place at a formal event scheduled for 11:30 am at a banquet hall in Khari Bot, Gwarko, Lalitpur. Top leaders from both parties are expected to address the gathering.
The Nepal Socialist Party was originally formed as a splinter group from the Naya Shakti Party, which was led by former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
This recent move comes after former party chair Mahendra Ray Yadav withdrew from the unification process. In response, Ganga Narayan Shrestha held a central committee meeting on Sunday, restructuring the party under his leadership.
According to Shrestha, he has the backing of a majority within the party—claiming the support of 17 out of 29 executive members and 99 out of 160 central committee members.
The planned merger marks another shift in Nepal’s evolving political landscape, with leftist forces continuing to realign ahead of future elections.
