11 people rescued from Central Plaza in Itahari

ITAHARI: Eleven people, including eight men and three women, have been rescued from the burning Central Plaza, a 10-story commercial building in the heart of Itahari Bazaar.

A Nepali Army helicopter deployed from Kathmandu played a crucial role in evacuating those trapped. The rescued individuals have been taken to the Nepali Army’s Eastern Command Headquarters in Itahari for medical evaluation.

Officials have stated that no additional people were seen inside the building apart from those already rescued.

The fire, which originated on the fifth floor, quickly spread, making it difficult for people inside to escape.

A rescue team comprising police and firefighters is still working to extinguish the fire and search for any remaining individuals.

Four fire engines, along with personnel from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army, are battling the blaze. Several businesses, including Hotel Veranda, QFX Movie Hall, and Lakshmi Sunrise Bank, are housed in the building.

While authorities are focused on preventing further damage and ensuring everyone’s safety, an investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to follow.
