Nepal’s eye care services attract thousands from India, Bangladesh and Bhutan



KATHMANDU: Nepal has become a key destination for eye care, attracting patients from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and beyond.

The country’s well-established eye hospitals and treatment centers, operated by the Nepal Netrajyoti Sangh, have been providing advanced eye care services to both domestic and international patients.

According to the Association’s Executive Director, Dr. Shailesh Kumar Mishra, a total of 907,071 foreign nationals underwent eye tests in Nepal in 2024, while 162,845 received surgical treatment.

Overall, Nepal’s eye care facilities served 3,268,034 patients for eye tests last year, and 258,575 individuals underwent eye surgery. Of these, 34,425 surgeries were conducted free of cost through the Association’s hospitals and outreach programs.

Since its inception, Nepal Netrajyoti Sangh has provided eye care services to 46.86 million people, including both Nepali and foreign nationals, and has performed 5.39 million eye surgeries.

Nepal’s eye hospitals, known for their affordability and high-quality treatment, continue to attract a growing number of international patients, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a regional hub for eye care.
