Devotees flock to temples across Nepal for Mahashivaratri
Hindus across Nepal are celebrating Mahashivaratri today with worship, prayers, and offerings at Shiva temples nationwide.
Observed on the midnight of Krishna Chaturdashi in the month of Falgun every year, Mahashivaratri is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities of the Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion.
Devotees began the day with ritual baths in rivers, ponds, and lakes, followed by visits to Shiva temples with deep devotion and reverence.
Nepali Army celebrates 262nd founding day along with Mahashivaratri
The Nepali Army marked its 262nd founding day on Wednesday. The event, held at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, also coincided with the celebration of Mahashivaratri.
President Ram Chandra Paudel graced the occasion as the chief guest at the special ceremony organized by the Nepali Army. The Army has been celebrating Mahashivaratri as its founding day for the past two decades.
75 arrested for criminal activities in Pashupatinath premises
Police arrested 75 individuals involved in criminal activities during the Shivaratri fair in Kathmandu, according to District Police Range Kathmandu Spokesperson, SP Apil Raj Bohora.
The arrests were made from various locations where large crowds had gathered for the religious celebration. Those detained are currently held at the Metropolitan Police Range in Gaushala and District Police Range Bhadrakali.
SP Bohora stated that some of the arrested individuals were found causing disturbances after consuming marijuana, while others were involved in theft, including stealing chains from devotees attending the festival.
Nepal’s title hopes shattered as Myanmar clinches Women’s Football Championship
Nepal’s long-standing dream of winning an international women’s football title remained unfulfilled after a 2-0 loss to Myanmar in the final of the International Women’s Football Championship at Dasharath Stadium.
Despite putting on an impressive performance, Nepal conceded the first goal in the 62nd minute.
Just two minutes later, Myanmar doubled their lead, crushing Nepal’s hopes of ending their title drought.
Prachanda says awareness campaign will address people’s concerns
Maoist Center Chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized the significance of the awareness campaign focusing on the East-West postal highway, stating that it will help understand the issues faced by the people, particularly in the southern region.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Press Center Nepal, Morang branch, today, Dahal expressed his belief that the campaign would address the concerns of indigenous, national, and Madheshi communities and lead to initiatives for solving their problems.
He further mentioned that the awareness campaign is crucial for economic development, increasing production, and promoting good governance. The campaign, which stretches from Mechi to Mahakali, is seen as a step towards creating a more prosperous and well-governed country.
