Rupandehi Court orders release of Lamichhane on Rs 10 million bail in cooperative fraud case

The Rupandehi District Court has ordered the release of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane on a bail amount of Rs 10 million in connection with the fraud case involving the Supreme Cooperative.

Judge Prahlad Yogi of the Rupandehi District Court issued the order, allowing the former Home Minister to remain out of custody on bail.

Previously, Lamichhane had secured bail in two other cooperative fraud cases: Rs 6.5 million from the Kaski District Court regarding the Suryadarshan Cooperative and Rs 6 million from the Kathmandu District Court for the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative. Both times, Prabhu Bank provided bail guarantees for his release.

Congress consults legal experts on ordinance

The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has sought advice from legal experts regarding recent amendments made through ordinances.

During a parliamentary party meeting held on Sunday in New Baneshwor, the NC invited three senior advocates for consultation on the contents and implications of the ordinances.

Chief Whip of the Congress Parliamentary Party, Shyam Ghimire, stated that senior advocates, including Semanta Dahal and Pratap Poudel, were present to provide insights.

Senior Advocate Tripathi assaulted: one arrested is an RSP district leader, another a supporter

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has admitted that one of its members was involved in the assault on senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi on January 15 at the Kathmandu District Court premises.

Mahendra Pandey, also known as Mahananda Jaisi, a founding vice-chair of RSP Humla, has been identified as one of the attackers. Tripathi, who was representing cooperative victims in a fraud case against RSP chair Rabi Lamichhane, was reportedly manhandled and assaulted by Pandey and others. Following Tripathi’s complaint, the police have arrested three individuals.

The arrested include Lalit Kumar KC, a resident of Tikatali, Lalitpur, and Sita Rai, known as Sheetal, both of whom were involved in the incident. While Rai is allegedly the chair of RSP Kathmandu-32, the party has yet to clarify her official status.

Govt facing pressure to meet revenue targets: Finance Minister

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has acknowledged that the government has not yet met its revenue target for the current fiscal year, despite some improvement in revenue collection compared to last year.

Speaking at a program organized by the Department of Customs to mark International Customs Day, Paudel urged customs and tax officials to work with greater efficiency, noting the pressure to meet the annual revenue target.

“Right now, we are under pressure to meet the revenue target. While there has been a slight increase compared to last year, it is still not satisfactory in relation to the target set for this year. We must work harder to meet the target,” said Finance Minister Paudel.

UML leader Pokharel affirms ‘strong unity’ with NC

CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has stated that the cooperation between the two main parties, CPN-UML and Nepali Congress, remains strong in running the current government.

He emphasized that the two major parties—Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—are working together with mutual understanding and trust to govern the country.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Nepal in Bardibas, General Secretary Pokharel highlighted that the agreement between the two parties to address political instability is focused on the prosperity and development of Nepal.
