Preliminary voter list published for National Assembly election



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has published the preliminary voter list for the upcoming National Assembly election.

According to the Commission, the preliminary voter list approved by the Commission has been made public for the information of all concerned stakeholders.

The National Assembly election is scheduled to be held on January 25. Members of provincial assemblies, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities, and mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities will serve as voters in the election.

As per the approved list, a total of 2,043 voters have been included. This includes 545 provincial assembly members and 1,498 local-level officials—comprising rural municipality chairpersons and vice-chairpersons, as well as municipal mayors and deputy mayors.

The Commission stated that the voter list excludes the names of five provincial assembly members, one removed from office by court order and four under suspension. Similarly, eight local-level officials, one deceased and seven under suspension, have also been excluded from the voter list.

Under the voting system, each provincial assembly member carries a vote weight of 53, while each chairperson, vice-chairperson, mayor and deputy mayor carries a vote weight of 19.
