Tribhuvan University’s 51st convocation ceremony being held today

KIRTIPUR: Tribhuvan University (TU) is holding its 51st convocation ceremony today at its central campus in Kirtipur, Kathmandu.

For the first time in the university’s history, a Nobel Prize winner has been invited as the chief guest, according to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Deepak Aryal. Japanese physicist Prof. Takaaki Kajita, a Nobel laureate in Physics (2015) and a faculty member at the University of Tokyo, will attend the ceremony as the chief guest.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aryal said that all necessary preparations for the convocation have been completed. He informed that arrangements including the construction of the pavilion and seating for graduating students and their guardians are in place.

This year, more than 16,300 students of Tribhuvan University are set to receive degrees at the convocation. It is estimated that around 41,000 people, including graduates and their guardians, will attend the ceremony.

According to the university, a total of 89,191 students have completed their studies at the bachelor’s, master’s, MPhil, and PhD levels, of whom 16,380 have applied to participate in this year’s convocation ceremony.
