Kathmandu, Lumbini face off in crucial NPL clash today

KATHMANDU: Lumbini Lions and Kathmandu Gurkhas will face off on Tuesday in the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Kathmandu is led by Karan KC, while national team captain Rohit Kumar Paudel leads Lumbini.

The match is scheduled to begin at 4 pm at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Both teams have earned two points so far—Kathmandu from three matches and Lumbini from two. Kathmandu started strong with a five-wicket win over Janakpur in the opening match but then suffered consecutive defeats against Sudurpaschim (by 29 runs) and Biratnagar (by five wickets).

Lumbini, meanwhile, defeated Chitwan by six wickets in their first game but fell to Karnali by nine wickets in their second. Kathmandu currently sits third in the points table, with Lumbini in fourth. Both sides are looking to bounce back with a crucial win today.

Eight franchise teams are competing in the NPL: Janakpur Bolts, Sudurpaschim Royals, Karnali Yaks, Pokhara Avengers, Biratnagar Kings, Chitwan Rhinos, Kathmandu Gurkhas, and Lumbini Lions.

Undefeated Sudurpaschim and Biratnagar lead the table with six points each, with Sudurpaschim ahead on net run rate. Kathmandu, Lumbini, Chitwan, and Karnali—each with two points—are placed third through sixth, while Janakpur and Pokhara remain winless after two matches.
