Chhath festival formally begins in Mithila

The Chhath festival has formally begun in the Mithila region from today. Ponds and riverbanks across Janakpurdham are being cleaned and decorated for the grand celebration. Preparations are underway at major sites, including Gangasagar, Aragjasar, Dasharath Talau, Dhanush Sagar, Matkorarwa Pokhari, and other ghats, according to Hari Narayan Gupta, Chairperson of the Gangasagar Chhath Committee. He said cleaning and decoration works are progressing in full swing to ensure a smooth celebration this year.

Home Minister urges protesters to opt for dialogue, not street demonstrations

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has urged groups staging street demonstrations with various demands to come forward for dialogue instead.  Speaking after a meeting with heads of the security agencies at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, Minister Aryal said the government is ready to address political demands through talks.

Minister Ghising inspects new Federal Parliament building

Minister for Urban Development and Physical Infrastructure Kulman Ghising inspected the construction site of the new Federal Parliament building. The construction of the building has not yet been completed despite the deadline being extended for the fifth time.

Gen-Z United members detained for staging protest at Maitighar

Police have detained several members of Gen-Z United from Maitighar for staging a protest without prior permission from the District Administration Office. According to police, the youths were taken into custody after they gathered at Maitighar Mandala to demonstrate against the government without obtaining the required approval for the assembly.

Security chiefs meet at Prime Minister’s residence

A high-level meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Saturday to review the country’s current security situation and discuss necessary measures. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal, and chiefs of all four security agencies, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

Electricity supply cut off to 18 companies for failing to pay ‘dedicated’ and ‘trunk line’ fees

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has disconnected the power supply to an additional 18 industries for failing to pay charges for using dedicated and trunk lines. According to NEA spokesperson Rajan Dhakal, power supply to Panchakanya Steel, Shyam Plastic, Goenka Foods, Cosmos Cement, SR Steel, Panchakanya Plastic, Bhairahawa Automatic Factory, Jagadamba Synthetic, Everest Rolling Industries, Gharana Foods, Bishal Cement, Butwal Cement, Nigale Cement, SR Foods, Siddhartha Pet Plant, Himal Iron, Triveni Synthetic Yarn, and Sona Minerals & Oils was cut off from Friday night.

KMC launches ‘Silver Volunteer Programme’ for citizens above 45

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has introduced a ‘Silver Volunteer Programme’ aimed at engaging experienced citizens aged above 45 in various developmental and social initiatives of the metropolis.  According to Bibek Bastola, member of the secretariat of the Urban Planning Commission under KMC, the programme seeks to utilize the skills and experience of retired or semi-retired individuals who wish to contribute to society rather than remain idle after retirement.

PM Karki assures full security for Hyatt Regency Hotel operations

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has assured that the government is fully committed to providing security for the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kathmandu, which had temporarily suspended operations following the Gen Z movement. Expressing concern over the hotel’s temporary closure, Prime Minister Karki said the government would guarantee the safety of its operations and staff.

Government grants approval for construction of three transmission lines

The government has granted approval for the construction of three transmission lines so far in the current fiscal year. According to the Department of Electricity Development under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, construction approval has been issued for the Nalgad–Maintada transmission line, which is considered crucial for connecting electricity generated in the Bheri Corridor to the national grid. The 75-kilometer-long transmission line will have a total capacity of 400 kV, capable of transmitting 2,400 megawatts of electricity. The National Transmission Grid Company is undertaking the project.

122 political parties registered with the Election Commission

The Election Commission has released the updated list of political parties currently registered with the Commission. Following the government’s announcement of the election date for March 5, several existing parties have updated their registration, while some new parties have also been registered. Meanwhile, dozens of other political groups are active without formal registration and are in the process of applying for party status. Details of those yet to be registered are not included in the list.

Rukum West jeep accident update: identities of eight victims confirmed

The death toll in the jeep accident at Lisne, Banfikot Rural Municipality-7 of Rukum West, has reached eight. According to police, the incident occurred on Friday evening when a jeep (Ra 1 Ja 422) traveling from the district headquarters Khalanga to Syalkhadi of Aathbiskot Municipality-2 fell off the inner road section. Seven people died on the spot, while one more died during treatment at Sallé District Hospital.

Migratory birds flock to Nepal as winter breeze sets in

As the monsoon season departs and chilly winds begin to sweep across the country, migratory birds have started arriving in Nepal once again. Each year, more than a hundred species of migratory birds make their way to Nepal, turning its wetlands and riversides into vibrant havens of biodiversity. Most of these visitors are waterfowl and ducks, while raptors such as kites, hawks, falcons, and vultures also migrate here in search of favorable climates.

KMC designates eight locations for Chhath celebration in Kathmandu

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has designated eight locations across the Valley for the celebration of the Chhath festival this year. At a press briefing on Saturday, Chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, Rajunath Pandey, said the city has made necessary arrangements at the sites to ensure a safe and organized celebration of the festival, which is observed with grandeur every year.

NC leader Maher urges government to implement poll agreement

Nepali Congress central member and head of the party’s Education Department, Nain Singh Maher, has urged the government and all political stakeholders to faithfully implement the agreement reached during the country’s emergency period. Speaking at a meeting organized by the Nepali Congress Municipal Committee, Parshuram, Maher said the agreement focused on holding the House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026 and emphasized that the government must act actively and honestly to ensure its implementation.

Nepali Army deploys 9,046 personnel for wildlife and forest protection

The Nepali Army has deployed 9,046 personnel across 12 national parks, one wildlife reserve, and one hunting reserve to ensure protection and conservation of forests and wildlife, according to Manoj Thapa, Director of Military Operations. Eight army battalions, two forest and environmental protection units, and seven independent teams have been assigned responsibility for safeguarding these areas.
