KMC designates eight locations for Chhath celebration in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has designated eight locations across the Valley for the celebration of the Chhath festival this year.

At a press briefing on Saturday, Chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, Rajunath Pandey, said the city has made necessary arrangements at the sites to ensure a safe and organized celebration of the festival, which is observed with grandeur every year.

According to Pandey, preparations have been made at Kamal Pokhari, Gaurighat, Boksidaha, Tinkune Dobhan, Tankeshwor, in front of Balkhu Kumari Club, Kuleshwar Volleyball Ground, and Ramghat for devotees to perform rituals.

He informed that cleaning works have been ongoing at these sites for the past several days and urged the public to contact the metropolis in case of any problems.

Pandey also requested people not to park vehicles near the celebration areas, adding that around 350 sanitation workers and municipal police personnel have been deployed to maintain order and cleanliness.

Originally celebrated in the Tarai region, Chhath has in recent years gained popularity across the hills and Himalayan regions as well. The festival is marked with devotion and colorful decorations along riverbanks, ponds, and lakes, where devotees offer prayers to the setting and rising sun amid illuminated surroundings and banana stalks symbolizing purity and devotion.
