JHAPA: The Kakarvitta checkpoint along the Nepal-India border in Jhapa recorded imports of petroleum products worth over Rs 4.48 billion in the first three months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, which began in mid-July.
The imported products include petrol, diesel, cooking gas (liquefied petroleum gas), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene.
According to Mechi Customs Office Information Officer Ishwor Kumar Humagain, imports have increased by 1.30 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year. With the rise in fuel imports, revenue collection from petroleum products also went up by 3.20 percent, amounting to Rs 68.09 million. The total revenue from petroleum imports during the period reached Rs 2.20 billion.
In the three months, 26,320 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 2.32 billion and 13,356 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 1.26 billion were imported. Likewise, 6,361 metric tons of cooking gas worth Rs 620.81 million, 2,256 kiloliters of ATF worth Rs 202.6 million, and 420 kiloliters of kerosene worth Rs 37.9 million entered the country through the checkpoint.
