Prime Minister vows probe into past corruption

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has pledged investigations into corruption cases that occurred under previous governments. In her address to the nation on Thursday, Karki assured that past corruption will be thoroughly examined.

Voter registration begins, citizens aged 16 and above with citizenship eligible to register

The Election Commission has resumed voter registration for the upcoming midterm elections scheduled for Falgun 21. Citizens who have completed 16 years of age and obtained a citizenship certificate can register their names until Kartik 30. Eligible citizens who have not yet registered can visit provincial or district election offices from 8 am to 6 pm. The commission has also allowed voters to update details, transfer their voting location, or correct errors during this period.

PM Karki: Govt. not mandated to change governance system, discusses possibility of overseas voting

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that changing Nepal’s governance system does not fall under the jurisdiction of the current government. She clarified that any amendment, if deemed necessary, should be pursued through the constitutional process.

Three investigative bodies return to Finance and Home Ministries from Prime Minister’s Office

Three government investigative departments, previously moved under the Prime Minister’s Office by former PM KP Sharma Oli in 2074 BS, have been returned to their respective ministries. In a cabinet meeting on Thursday, the interim government decided to place two departments under the Ministry of Finance and one under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Govt preparing to bar leaders from leaving country amid Gen-Z protest investigations

The interim government has begun preparations to investigate several senior political leaders over human casualties and property damage during the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9, as well as alleged hoarding of illicit cash discovered after subsequent arson attacks. According to officials, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and then-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak are among those likely to face investigation for allegedly ordering the crackdown on the first day of protests, which left at least 19 dead.

Prachanda blames Gen-Z uprising on Oli-led government

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has said the Gen-Z uprising of September 8-9 was a result of the then government’s failures. Presenting his political and organizational proposal at the party’s Central Committee meeting on Thursday, Prachanda argued that the protests stemmed from the shortcomings of the KP Sharma Oli-led administration.

60% of landslide cleared along Muglin–Narayangadh road

Authorities have reported that around 60 percent of the landslide debris at Tuiun Khola along the Muglin–Narayangadh road section has been cleared, raising hopes that full traffic movement may resume by tonight. Excavators and loaders have been deployed from both Narayangadh and Muglin sides, with backup machinery also stationed to ensure uninterrupted work, according to police officials at the site.

Maoist Centre leaders split over special congress proposal

A proposal by Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal to dissolve the party’s current Central Committee and form a preparatory committee for a special party congress in November has faced resistance from two senior leaders. During the seventh Central Committee meeting held Thursday at Kamaladi, Senior Vice-Chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma rejected Prachanda’s proposal.

Online media registration shifted back to Department of Information

Online news portals in Nepal can once again be registered directly through the Department of Information, following a Cabinet decision on Thursday. Government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, announced the move after the interim government’s Council of Ministers meeting at Singha Durbar.

Prachanda proposes dissolving Central Committee

Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, has proposed dissolving the party’s current Central Committee and forming a preparatory committee under his leadership to organize a special party congress. The proposal was presented during the party’s 7th full Central Committee meeting at Pragya Bhawan, Kamaladi, on Thursday. Prachanda highlighted that the party’s internal elections must take place on schedule and that attention should remain focused on the upcoming national polls, according to Maoist leaders attending the meeting.

Internal dissent erupts at Maoist Centre’s Central Committee meeting

The 7th Central Committee of the Maoist Centre, which began Thursday at Pragya Bhawan in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, has seen some party leaders expressing dissent. During the meeting, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ presented his political and organizational proposals. Prior to this, General Secretary Dev Gurung briefed attendees that only office-bearers and group leaders would be allowed to present their views, sparking objections from some members.

Janardan Sharma attributes Gen-Z uprising to Maoist’s deviation from people’s war ideals

Gen-Z protest survivor faces life with scars and uncertainty

In Budhanilkantha, a small rented room holds a lot of memories for Anil Pariyar. This modest space, complete with a kitchen in one corner, a bed in another, and photos of his late wife, is where 31-year-old Pariyar from Kusma, Parbat, has been recovering after being critically injured during the Gen-Z protests on September 9. Pariyar, a tailor by profession, had no prior knowledge of the Gen-Z movement or its objectives. He joined the protest after witnessing the deaths of young student protesters on September 8, motivated by anger and grief over the state’s violent response.

Nepal adds nearly Rs 70 billion to public debt in first two months of fiscal year

The former KP Sharma Oli-led government, a coalition including the UML and Nepali Congress, added nearly Rs 70 billion to Nepal’s public debt in the first two months of the current fiscal year. According to the Public Debt Management Office (PDMO), the government increased state borrowing by Rs 69.32 billion during Shrawan and Bhadra. Public debt stood at Rs 2.674 trillion as of Shrawan 1 but rose to Rs 2.743 trillion by the end of Bhadra. Of this, domestic debt accounted for Rs 1.268 trillion, while external debt reached Rs 1.405 trillion.

Nepal launches physical infrastructure reconstruction fund to restore Gen-Z protest damages

The Nepalese government has established a high-level committee and a dedicated fund to facilitate the reconstruction of public and government infrastructure damaged during the Gen-Z protests on September 8and 9. The move aims to provide necessary financial resources for repair, rehabilitation, and economic restoration following widespread destruction. Announcing the initiative at a press conference on Thursday at Singh Durbar, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, explained that the Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund has been set up under the Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Committee (Formation) Order, 2052. The fund will support reconstruction, repair, economic revival, relief, and rehabilitation programs.

Following the blockage of the Muglin–Narayangadh road, passenger traffic at Tribhuvan International Airport’s domestic terminal has surged as travelers opt for flights amid unsafe road conditions. Govt launches hotline to report delays, corruption in key ministries

The Ministries of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Urban Development, and Physical Infrastructure and Transport have launched dedicated hotlines to allow citizens to report delays, bribery demands, or other forms of misconduct in their offices. The initiative enables service users to lodge complaints directly if they face obstruction, unnecessary hardship, or disrespectful behavior from ministry staff, departments, or subordinate offices.

Baburam Bhattarai resigns as Chair of Nepal Samajbadi Party

Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, former Prime Minister and chairperson of the Nepal Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti), has announced his resignation from the party’s top post. Speaking at a press conference on Monday,Bhattarai said he stepped down to make way for a new generation to take the country’s political leadership, acknowledging the need for generational transition in political parties.

Yogesh Bhattarai admits UML failed to meet Gen-Z expectations

CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has publicly acknowledged his party’s failure to meet the evolving demands and expectations highlighted by the recent Gen-Z protests. In a statement released on Thursday, Bhattarai also paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the demonstrations.

One-way traffic resumes on Prithvi Highway

Vehicular movement along the Prithvi Highway has resumed after landslides at Jwankhola and Tingarangkhani in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality–10 blocked the road earlier. According to Suraj Shrestha, Inspector at the District Traffic Police Office, Gajuri, the landslides had deposited a large volume of mud and rocks on the road, halting traffic in both directions.

Nepal Police provide free bus service for passengers stranded on Narayangadh–Muglin road

With landslides continuing to block traffic along the Narayangadh–Muglin road section, police have launched a free bus service to assist stranded passengers. According to SP Govinda Puri, Chief of the Chitwan District Police Office, the service began on Tuesday to support travelers stuck for the past two days due to a massive landslide at Tuin Khola. Two buses from the Nepal Police School in Shantipur have been mobilized to provide transport at no cost.

Dashain exodus picks up as thousands more leave Kathmandu

With Dashain festivities arriving in Nepali households, the annual outflow of people from the Kathmandu Valley has surged. As schools and colleges close for the holidays, major departure points such as Gongabu Bus Park are witnessing heavy crowds from early morning. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dipak Giri, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, about 138,296 people left the Valley between Ghatasthapana and Wednesday evening.

Gold prices down Rs 1,700 per tola

The price of gold has gone down by Rs 1,700 per tola. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold has been set at Rs 221,300 per tola.

Immigration Department to remain open during Dashain holidays, except on Oct 2

The Department of Immigration has announced that its Tourist Visa and Agency branches will remain open on all public holidays during the Dashain festival, except on Bijaya Dashami (October 2). According to a notice issued by Immigration Officer Shiva Kumar Adhikari, services at the department will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on all days except the main Dashain holiday. The move aims to ensure continued service delivery during the festive period.

Authorities resume efforts to clear Tuinkhola landslide

Work to clear a landslide near Tuinkhola along the Muglin–Narayangadh road section resumed at 6 am on Thursday, according to Bharatpur officials. Heavy rainfall on Wednesday night had halted operations, but machines have now been deployed from both sides of the blockage. Authorities cautioned that it will take time to fully remove the debris and restore traffic.

Five road sections closed, four partially open after heavy rains

Heavy rainfall has triggered floods and landslides, disrupting major highways and roads across the country. According to Nepal Police, five road sections have been completely blocked, while four others are operating only partially, police said.
