Internal dissent erupts at Maoist Centre’s Central Committee meeting

KATHMANDU: The 7th Central Committee of the Maoist Centre, which began Thursday at Pragya Bhawan in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, has seen some party leaders expressing dissent.

During the meeting, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ presented his political and organizational proposals. Prior to this, General Secretary Dev Gurung briefed attendees that only office-bearers and group leaders would be allowed to present their views, sparking objections from some members.

Central Committee members Ranjit Tamang and Sudan Kirati, among others, demanded that every member be allowed to voice their opinions, opposing Gurung’s proposed agenda.

However, Prachanda has opted for a strategy of hearing collective feedback. Anticipating possible dissent, he proposed through General Secretary Gurung that only group leaders and office-bearers speak at this stage, which prompted objections from some attendees.

The meeting is expected to continue discussions on Prachanda’s political and organizational proposals while managing internal differences within the party.
