Prithvi Highway completely blocked due to landslides

MALEKHU: Vehicular movement along the Prithvi Highway has come to a complete halt due to landslides at Jwangkhola and Tingrangkhani in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10 of Dhading district.

According to Police Inspector Suraj Shrestha of the District Traffic Police Office, Gajuri, the landslides began around 10:00 AM today. Efforts are currently underway to clear the debris and resume traffic flow.

Thousands of vehicles are stranded as the landslides have blocked the highway at a time when large numbers of people are traveling home for the Dashain festival.

Superintendent of Police Bhesh Raj Rijal of the District Police Office, Dhading, said security personnel have been mobilized to move vehicles to safer locations. Passengers have been advised to remain alert and use alternative routes if necessary.

The Prithvi Highway had also been completely blocked for 17 hours following a dry landslide at Jwangkhola on Monday night. Traffic had only resumed this morning after debris from a separate landslide on Wednesday evening was cleared.
