KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that the Constitution can be amended as needed.
Speaking at a talk program titled “Federal Democratic Republic and the Present Constitution”, held in Kathmandu on Friday, President Deuba emphasized that the Constitution is rooted in pluralism and is subject to change in response to evolving demands.
“Various sectors are currently calling for constitutional amendments—some specifically concerning the role of the Vice President,” he noted.
Deuba also remarked that while Nepal’s communist parties adopt different approaches during elections, they often collaborate with democratic parties at other times.
On the occasion, he paid tribute to the late Dhundiraj Shastri, acknowledging his significant role in strengthening the party and advancing democracy.
Other senior leaders, including Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Bimalendra Nidhi, and Arjun Narsingh KC, also reflected on Shastri’s contributions to the consolidation of the Nepali Congress, the democratic movement, and broader social transformation.
