Five arrested for duping job seekers with fake foreign employment promises



KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have arrested five individuals on charges of defrauding job seekers by promising lucrative employment opportunities abroad.

Those arrested have been identified as Sajan Gurung, Deepak Thapa, Tek Bahadur KC, Bharat Prasad Pandey and Prem Prasad Bhushal.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku, the suspects allegedly lured victims with promises of jobs in Germany, Georgia, Greece, and South Korea and collected large sums of money before cutting contact.

Sajan Gurung reportedly took Rs 1.28 million from one person promising a job in Germany. Deepak Thapa defrauded three individuals of Rs 600,000 for jobs in Georgia. Tek Bahadur KC allegedly took Rs 2.1 million from six people for jobs in Greece. Bharat Pandey swindled three people out of Rs 2 million promising work in Korea, while Prem Prasad Bhushal took Rs 3.35 million from three victims under similar pretenses.

Police arrested Sajan and Tek Bahadur from Kathmandu-26, Dipak from Kathmandu-30 on Wednesday, and Bharat and Prem from Lalitpur-15 on Thursday.

All five suspects have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action.
