Bidya Bhandari making stance public today after UML blocks her return

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari is set to make a public statement today following the CPN-UML’s decision to block her return to the party, despite her recent renewal of party membership.

Bhandari will hold a press conference at 3 PM on Friday at Karki Banquet in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, to clarify her stance on the matter.

The UML Central Committee, after a three-day meeting that began on July 20, decided to revoke her general membership and bar her from reentering active party politics.

Initially choosing to remain silent, Bhandari has now opted to respond publicly. She had previously expressed a strong desire to reengage in party politics, stating she would not step back.

UML Chair KP Sharma Oli is believed to have led the move to block her return, reportedly viewing her as a potential rival ahead of the party’s 11th General Convention.
