CHITWAN: A digital display board at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Bharatpur Distribution Center was hacked on Monday, displaying an objectionable slogan against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
According to NEA officials, the hacked board displayed the message “KP Chor Desh Chod” (KP you thief, leave the country), leading to outrage among UML cadres.
In response, a group of UML supporters allegedly attacked the head of the NEA Chitwan Distribution Center and vandalized the office.
The cyber breach occurred around noon on Monday, when the digital information board, intended for public notices, was compromised.
NEA has strongly condemned the hacking and stated that it has requested authorities to investigate the incident as a cybercrime.
However, tensions escalated further on Tuesday morning, when a group of 35-40 individuals stormed the NEA office, vandalized property, and physically assaulted the office chief.
Following the attack, NEA Bharatpur employees have expressed concerns over their safety and have demanded action against the perpetrators of the vandalism.
