Congress resolves to stand united inside and outside Parliament
The Nepali Congress has decided to present itself as a united front both inside and outside Parliament.
The decision was made during a joint meeting of party officials, former officials, chief whips, whips, and ministers held in Singha Durbar on Saturday.
Chief Whip Shyam Prasad Ghimire stated that any internal issues within the party will be discussed in the parliamentary party meeting scheduled for Sunday and Monday. He emphasized that the Congress will maintain unity with a single voice and stance in Parliament and in public.
NDRRMA warns of increased risk of forest fires due to rising temperatures
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has cautioned the public about an increased likelihood of forest fires this year due to rising temperatures and low winter rainfall.
“With the gradual increase in temperatures and insufficient winter rainfall, the risk of forest fires is expected to rise further across the country,” said Dr Dijan Bhattarai, spokesperson for NDRRMA.
The warning follows a significant forest fire that broke out in Khanikhola Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok, which has since spread to other regions. Bhattarai said efforts are underway to control and extinguish the fire.
RSP cadres accused of misconduct against former Chief Minister Rawal, secretariat demands investigation
Former Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province and leader of the CPN-UML parliamentary party in the provincial assembly, Rajendra Singh Rawal, was reportedly mistreated by cadres of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
The incident occurred on Saturday at Daiji Chowk along the East-West Highway in Kanchanpur while Rawal was traveling to Dhangadhi for official purposes. Rawal’s secretariat issued a press statement condemning the incident.
According to the statement, RSP cadres stopped Rawal’s vehicle, verbally abused the driver, attempted physical assault, and even tried to vandalize the vehicle, which the secretariat described as an affront to the rule of law.
Rise in crime, banking fraud accounts for a quarter of cases
Crime rates in Nepal have seen a recent rise, with case registrations increasing by 3.92% in Poush compared to Mangsir, according to statistics released by the Nepal Police.
Data from the Nepal Police Headquarters reveals that 4,345 cases were registered in Poush, up from 4,181 in Mangsir.
Kathmandu recorded the highest number of cases at 1,363, while Karnali Province had the lowest at 151.
People’s sentiments toward Maoists positive: Dahal
Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) and former Prime Minister, has expressed confidence that the public’s view toward the Maoists remains positive as he continues his efforts to connect with the people.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Press Center Dang in Ghorahi on Saturday, Dahal shared that he is actively engaging with the people to understand their perspectives.
Dahal highlighted that the Maoist Center would benefit if the current government remains in power until the next election, noting the high expectations people have of the party.
RPP General Secretary calls for street-centric movement and self-correction
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana has stated that history will judge those who fail to act decisively as the party’s demands take to the streets.
Speaking at the RPP’s central working committee meeting that began on Friday, he emphasized the need for a focused street-centric movement while the situation is ripe.
“This is not the time to be greedy for positions; the only alternative is to engage in a street movement with dedication while the iron is hot,” said General Secretary Rana.
