Communications Minister for making Pokhara a sports hub

POKHARA: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said Pokhara city should be made a hub for sports along with tourism.

Inaugurating the Fifth Tiger Cup National and International Invitational Open Club Championship Women and Men Volleyball Competition in Pokhara on Saturday, Minister Gurung said the government has a vision to make Pokhara a prosperous city in all respects.

“The Gandaki Province is rich in terms of resources. We have a vision to make this city more peaceful, civilized and prosperous through human efforts. Pokhara should be made a sports hub along with the touristic capital city,” Minister Gurung said.

The government spokesperson said that the government has a plan to ensure the infrastructure development of Pokhara to make this city a hub for sports, education and health care.

The sports tournaments including Tiger Cup Volleyball, Aaha Rara Gold Cup Football, International Marathon and other sports activities have contributed for the development of sports here.

Likewise, he shared the government’s plan to develop an IT Park and a Data Centre in Pokhara.

A total of 12 teams including six teams of men are participating in the Tiger Cup National and International Invitational Open Club Championship Women and Men Volleyball Competition.

The winning teams of both men and women will receive equal Rs 585,555 and the first runner-up teams will get Rs 285,555 in cash, the organizer said.

The competition will last till February 1.
