Nepali Congress holds central executive meeting amid possible convention delay

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress is holding a meeting of its Central Executive Committee at the party headquarters in Sanepa on Wednesday.

Party Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel said the meeting began after 3 pm and is being attended by office-bearers, former office-bearers and senior central committee members.

The meeting is likely to deliberate on postponing the party’s 15th General Convention, scheduled to begin on January 10, to February, amid delays in the distribution of active membership.

Discussions are focused on preparations for the 15th National General Convention, slated for January 10 to 12, and complications surrounding the distribution of new active memberships, which have affected the overall convention schedule.

Party leaders have indicated that delays in finalizing active memberships could force adjustments to the previously announced timetable.

According to the existing schedule, ward conventions are to be held on December 31, followed by municipal conventions on January 1 and provincial assembly constituency conventions on January 3.

Similarly, House of Representatives constituency conventions and district conventions in districts with a single constituency are scheduled for January 5, district conventions in districts with two or more constituencies on January 6, provincial conventions on January 7 and 8, and the central general convention from January 10 to 12.

The party is expected to take a decision on whether to revise the convention timeline based on progress in resolving the membership issue.
