Festival lull drags NEPSE down 27.89 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 27.89 points (1.03 percent) on Wednesday, closing at 2,654.35 points.

Market turnover also dropped significantly. Compared to Tuesday’s Rs 5.29 billion, total transactions fell to Rs 4.12 billion. Analysts say the approaching Dashain festival has dampened trading activity, with sellers hesitant since payouts will not be settled before the holidays, while buyers are conserving cash for festival expenses.

Altogether, prices of 53 companies gained, 193 declined, and 5 remained unchanged. Among the sectoral indices, only the hotel and tourism group rose, gaining 0.85 percent.

All other groups ended in the red, with the ‘Others’ group seeing the steepest drop of 2.16 percent.

Banking fell 0.73 percent, development banks 1.13 percent, hydropower 0.96 percent, investment 1.90 percent, life insurance 0.52 percent, manufacturing and processing 0.11 percent, microfinance 0.84 percent, non-life insurance 1.51 percent, and trading 1.65 percent.
