Journalists protest Koshi Province mass communication bill with reverse march

KATHMANDU: Journalists in Koshi Province staged a symbolic protest on Sunday, marching backwards to oppose provisions in the newly introduced Mass Communication Bill.

At the call of the Press Union Koshi Province Committee, journalists walked in reverse from Devkota Chowk to Hatkhola in Biratnagar, wearing black bands over their mouths and arms.

They object to clauses that allow penalties for published content and grant registrar-level officials powers similar to a court.

The protesting journalists urged the provincial government to amend the bill, arguing that it undermines the constitutional right to full press freedom.
