Muglin–Pokhara road upgrade deadline extended yet again

DAMAULI: The deadline for the expansion of the Muglin–Pokhara road project (Eastern Sector) has been extended for the fourth time, according to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

The extension applies to the section from Jamune to Ambukhaireni in Tanahun district. Engineer Bishnu Prasad Pandey of the Muglin–Pokhara Road Project (Eastern Section) stated that the new deadline has been pushed to October 11, 2025. The previous deadline, following the third extension, expired on July 13, 2025.

The 41.5-kilometre stretch from Ambukhaireni to Jamune has already been fully blacktopped in four lanes. In Damauli, a six-lane section has also been completed. Additionally, road painting has been completed in most areas.

“Although the blacktopping work is complete, some minor works remain. Hence, we recommended a deadline extension to the Ministry,” said Engineer Pandey. He noted that the blacktopping was completed within three years of the agreement and over the last 456 days.

The agreement for widening the eastern section was signed on January 30, 2021, and work commenced on April 15, 2021. The contract was awarded to China Communication Construction Company.

The four-lane upgrade is being carried out with loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The contract for the eastern sector is valued at Rs 6.213 billion.
